Dear Families: The Lazarus Team, the liturgical ministers, the priests, the deacons and I extend our prayers and condolences to you at this time. On this page you will find information concerning funeral liturgies at St. Justin the Martyr Parish. The Catholic Faith teaches that death is not the end of our existence but a threshold into eternal life that will never end. At death, our bodies and souls are separated. While our mortal bodies are indeed destroyed in death, our souls are immortal and live forever. Through the power of Christ’s redeeming Death and Resurrection, our souls will be reunited with transformed bodies in the final resurrection which will come at the end of the world. Below you will find the appropriate Scripture readings for the Funeral Mass. In Christ, Father Mark
Note: The Vatican clarified on Tuesday, October 26, 2016, that Catholics may be cremated but should not have their ashes scattered at sea or kept in urns at home. According to new guidelines from the Vatican’s doctrinal office, cremated remains should be kept in a “sacred place” such as a church cemetery. Ashes should not be divided up between family members, “nor may they be preserved in mementos, pieces of jewelry or other objects.”
