Is Our Blessed Mother appearing and if so, why? May is the month we honor our Blessed Mother. To close out the month, we will have an evening Mass on Wednesday, May 31st—the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary—at 7:00 pm.  This year marks the 100th anniversary of Our Blessed Mother’s appearance in Fatima. Immediately following the Mass, Father Mark will give a brief talk on Marian apparitions. Some of the questions answered will include: How does the Church determine the authenticity of a reported Marian apparition? As Catholics are we obliged to believe in Marian apparitions? If Mary is appearing, why is she appearing? The whole evening will take approximately one hour (a half hour for the Mass and a half hour for the talk).

Come to honor Our Blessed Mother and to learn more about Marian apparitions. The Preface for the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary reads:

It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,
to praise your mighty deeds in the exaltation of all the Saints,
and especially, as we celebrate the memory of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
to proclaim your kindness as we echo her thankful hymn of praise.

For truly even to earth’s ends you have done great things
and extended your abundant mercy from age to age:
when you looked on the lowliness of your handmaid,
you gave us through her the author of our salvation,
your Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Through him the host of Angels adores your majesty
and rejoices in your presence for ever.
May our voices, we pray, join with theirs
in one chorus of exultant praise, as we acclaim:

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts . . .
